Near the end of 2001 a couple conversations took place, suggesting that it might be fun and interesting to have a "weight loss challenge" to start out 2002. This evolved into two "contests", one to optimize BMI (Body Mass Index) and one to optimize %BF (Percentage Body Fat).
For each contest, each contestant indicates their "ideal" value, based on a web citation for a healthy value of that indicator given their own current stats, build, gender, etc. The ideal should be the best possible value for that person, with being either above or below being bad. For purposes of the contest a "score" would be calculated equal to the percent improvement the person makes in the direction of their ideal (relative to the worst they are during the contest). The maximum score possible for a given contestant is the percent improvement needed to reach ones ideal. The person with the highest score by the end of 3rd Quarter 2002 would win the contest. A completely separate contest would be held for BMI and %BF.
The "prize" for each prize will be that each loser will pay the winner of each contest $1 per precent improvement the winner achieved during the time period, with a maximum of 30$.
For each contest, I'm showing two charts, one of the "score" and one of the ratio of each contestants values to their goals. The charts are linked to below:
