V for “vendetta”?????? Since when? I always heard it was V for Victory and believe it came from welcoming troops home after one of the World Wars – VJ day was Victory in Japan for instance also.
Did you read the article on that link? This is relating to the now very common presence of Guy Fawkes masks in protests, specifically ones with an anarchist bent. For the most part it isn’t related to the history of the original Guy Fawkes, but became popular after a 1980’s graphic novel called “V for Vendetta” (which was also made into a movie in 2005). The book and movie prominently featured the Guy Fawkes mask. The use of the mask in protests took off after that.
