Box is just about the best plaything that youngster can have. My young ones loved getting all sizes in boxes from a near by grocery store and make them in car bodies for red wagon, play huts, and anything else that came to their imagination. It was close enough so that they could walk them home along with the rest of kids in the area helping! We had some pretty neat playthings. Free and safe.
vividly remember the year we lived in a really transitional neighborhood outside Rochester and a refrigerator-size box was THE elementary school status symbol. also the year the moms all got together and hired a sitter to watch us while they watched watergate.
Oh yes-Tents/forts are in the future planning. Best time was constructing the shelter. Some were pretty funny at the start. A friend over or with brother/sister it was into the tent with books, toys, music and don’t forget the snacks.Makes for a fun afternoon play time. Mine would spend hours in them . At least I knew where they were and they were safe and happy.
I remember ordering a 10 foot floating ghost or some such from the back of a comic book. It was one of these 6 to 10 weeks for delivery jobs. I marked off my calendar and everything with the days left until the ghost arrived. I was very excited waiting for my 10 foot floating ghost. When it did come, it was a white balloon with a string to hang it from and a paper skirt thing than hung from it. Very disappointing.

I remember boxes myself. Especially the big ones. They were indeed gold!
I suppose the forts made of chairs and blankets and the occasional box are coming soon as well… :-)

I remember some of mine from when I was a kid. You can make some pretty elaborate stuff with things around the house. :-)
