Ivan mentioned to me last weekend that he was having an issue posting a comment to my website. I thought it was probably a fluke as other people had been posting comments a day or two earlier without any difficulties. But today Brandy tried to post a comment and could not. So I’m investigating. In the mean time, if you can’t comment, I apologize.

OK, I just commented fine. Dunno what is up with Ivan and Brandy. I’ll keep researching. In the mean time, anybody out there who has commented on my site, try to do it again. If you succeed, I will see it here. If you fail, please email me and let me know you tried and failed. Thanks!

Interesting. It seems to be working just fine from the Apple store network, but not from the Sprint network that both Brandy and my phone are on. I’ve checked the list of IPs I’ve banned, and the IPs we were on were not banned. Continuing to investigate. Ivan, when you couldn’t comment, where were you connected from?
This shouldn’t be making any difference, but that is the only pattern I’ve found so far. But I’ve just started to investigate.
And now it is time for dinner.
Once I get home I’ll see if there are any issues from home (Qwest).
I tried to comment from my HP phone and it didn’t phone. And when I say HP phone I do mean an HP Brand phone over cingular network.
The last post worked from my home home computer.
Oh.. It didn’t work from HP (work site, Brasil) using either firefox or IE.
Hmmm, lets see if this works from Qwest.
Yup. So it looks like it works from Qwest and whatever the Bellevue Apple Store uses, and it works from Ivan’s home computer (which is BellSouth/Comcast I think). And from whatever Greg uses. But NOT from Sprint, Cingular or whatver HP’s network is.
It does seem to be tied to whatever network folks are connected to. But that makes no sense at all. Access to the site itself is never disrupted, so it isn’t a general network issue. And I only have a smattering of individual IP addresses banned that I got comment spam from in the past, that should not be blocking any of these. Maybe I’ll just remove all my IP blocks and see if that makes anything better.
But I’ll admit I am confused by this. Urgh.
But I don’t think I’ll go with Greg’s no comment idea.
OK, I removed all the IP bans. Let me know if it starts to work from any of the places it didn’t work before.
